I sculpt primarily in wood, focusing on basswood and cottonwood. My carvings often take the
form of whimsical structures, each one imbued with its own distinct personality. I choose my
subject matter by attentively listening to the wood, allowing its natural qualities to guide the
direction of each piece.
My work frequently features designs with tall roofs, numerous windows, stairs, and balconies,
which bring a sense of movement and life to the sculptures. The natural shape and grain of the
wood are continuous sources of inspiration, helping to shape and define every form.
My technique emphasizes the interplay of light and shadow. I enjoy incorporating backlit
windows and cutaways that invite viewers to peer inside. Sharp angles and gothic-style
windows further distinguish the sculptures, creating imaginative spaces that encourage curiosity
and wonder. Through this approach, I strive to bring the quiet stories within the wood to vibrant,
whimsical life.
