The Work of Her Hands
An Exhibit of Textile Jewellery and Portraiture
The artworks in this collection represent the inspired and collaborative vision of three artists, Leena Rahusaar, Christine Wynnyk and Teri Bell. Together they explore the creative and sometimes undervalued skills of women throughout their lives. The pieces unfolded as a dialogue between artists, separate but with a shared vocabulary of tone, shape and texture. The end result is a collection that is a visible acknowledgement and celebration of the beauty of women and the work of their hands.
Leena Rahusaar
Leena Rahusaar is a visual artist and poet based in Perth, Ontario. Although discouraged from pursuing a career in the arts, Leena has always dabbled in creative pursuits. Now, she has the good fortune to be at a stage in her life that she can truly hone her artistic skills through mentorship and lots of creative play with a variety of mediums. She typically paints in acrylics and loves painting portraits in the Zorn palette. Her portraits chronicle the stories revealed through faces, especially the life experience of older adults.
Christine Wynnyk & Teri Bell
Christine and Teri are textile artists based in the Ottawa Valley and have been creating under the hookk brand for the past 4 years. Their jewellery plays with standard crochet stitches reimagined in very modern ways using natural fibres. Leather and suede feature prominently in their designs and they love to give new life to pre-loved and vintage jewellery. Their design inspiration come from the materials they use and the many colours of nature and life.
