Karen Kurtzrock
Stoneware Clay
Meet Karen Kurtzrock from Klay_Kreations.
Karen attended a 3 year ceramic program in the late 1970's. In 1984 she returned to school and graduated with a degree in occupational therapy from the University of Toronto. Clay has always been a constant and she now works out of a studio in Ottawa. Karen teaches at Gloucester Pottery School and is a member of the Ottawa Guild of Potters . She sells her work through various shows in and around Ottawa and through the Carleton Place Gallery.
'Clay offers endless possibilities in terms of form and surface treatment which provides for me a constant opportunity to be challenged and to learn. I am interested in building work that conveys a sense of play whether it be through images or form. I want to animate each piece so that the work continues to inspire a sense of discovery. It is my intention for each pot to be unique. This uniqueness, I hope, reminds the user that it is handmade.'
'By making thoughtful, useful, handcrafted pottery for the domestic landscape, I am inspired to enhance the home, engage the hand, and enliven the spirit.'
