Dots of Joy
by Maciek (Magic) Peter Kozlowski
Saturday, June 27 - Friday, July 10
Vernissage: Sunday, July 17 1:00 - 4:00 pm
I thought putting dots on paintings would be easy. It was not.
Each dot demanded absolute attention. The wrong distance, the wrong shade, the wrong size, and the whole painting fell apart. Every dot had only one right place, and it knew it.
What emerged was not a pattern but a conversation. Dot speaking to dot. Color answering color. Tension, release, and rhythm unfolding one decision at a time. The process felt less like painting and more like a jazz jam session, where meaning lives not in the single note, but in the one that follows.
These works are visual improvisations. Carefully reckless. Precisely intuitive. Each painting is a harmony discovered rather than planned, inviting you to feel the rhythm before you try to understand it.
Stand close. Step back. Let your eyes wander. The dots will do the rest.
BIO
Maciek “Magic Peter” Kozlowski is an artist-explorer who creates at the intersection of intuition, engineering, and wonder. Born in Warsaw in 1958 and now based in Ottawa, his earliest lessons came from his grandmother, an artist who taught him to find hidden characters and quiet stories in everyday surfaces, even the cracks of an old pink bathtub.
Trained as an engineer and guided by instinct, Magic Peter works from the subconscious, deliberately stepping aside so the work can emerge through him rather than from him. This balance between precision and surrender fuels his mixed media, paintings, sculptures, and immersive exhibition experiences. Each body of work shifts style and medium, pushing boundaries while inviting joy, curiosity, and reflection on human experience, nature, and social connection.
His work has been exhibited in Ottawa, Toronto, and Brooklyn, and is collected internationally. In 2017, he was named Artist of the Year in the U.K. An avid collector himself, he creates distinct collections that invite viewers into the pleasure of discovery, the moment when a piece quietly claims you as its own.
